Restoration of Bridge damaged by poor maintenance of Expansion Joints

The Project is a typical example of damage to A Bridge on State Highway in Andhra Pradesh was damaged due to non-functioning of Expansion joints. The accumulation of expansion of each span resulted in displacement of the last span to a large extent enough to deform the neoprene pads and also in form of a major horizontal crack in the PCC abutment..
 

After restoration of the damaged PCC abutment, it was required to lift the end span to replace the Neoprene bearings, which have been deformed beyond limits. The lifting of the span was carried out using 8 Nos Hydraulic Jacks powered by a single power pack.

 
After lifting and replacing the bearings, expansion joint was also replaced by a new strip seal joint.
 

The work being shut down in nature with traffic being diverted, the job was carried out on war footing and completed in just 2 days time.
